I don’t know about you, but history was a four-for-four in my own particular MLB Playoff lodging interests. And two of those triumphs were PARTICULARLY succulent
Philadelphia Phillies 6, St. Louis Cardinals 3 – PHI Leads Wild Card Round 1- 0
I got into this one history as it happen since it was so pleasurable. The short interpretation is that the Cardinals carried a 2- 0 lead into the 9th inning, and gave up 6 runs to blow it.
The longer interpretation is that Jose Quintana was tremendous, and the bullpen-Ryan Helsley’s loss of control was great, too. But Helsley had nothing, the Phillies were just patient enough to take advantage, and Jean Segura managed to gush an insolvable-to-hit pitch past a drawn-in infield to give the Phillies the lead. It was delightful to watch.
Oh, and Yadi Molina, who was the game-tying run, struck out to finish it. That’s entertaining as well, so. Game Two will begin tonight at 7:30pm CT on ESPN2, with Miles Mikolas facing Aaron Nola. Go Schwarbs.
San Diego Padres 7, New York Mets 1 – SD Leads Wild Card Round 1- 0
Away in tastiness, the Padres TOOK IT TO the Mets incontinently last night and wound up hitting FOUR homers off of Max Scherzer, which has noway happed to a Mets starting ewer in postseason history ahead.
Possibly, Mets suckers loudly booed Scherzer as he was pulled from the game. I understand there’s frustration, but good lord. Are they booing Scherzer? That’s ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Yu Darvish threw seven innings of one-run ball, because he’s stupendous. I’ll admit, it’s hard in those moments when you’re watching him last night, to not suppose about the trade from the Cubs and wonder if they had to do that, or if it was the right move.
Darvish wouldn’t have made the difference for the Cubs in 2021 and 2022, so nothing was lost there, but obviously, now we’re talking about wanting the Cubs to go out and add a front-end starter. Ah well. At least Darvish is a free agent again after the coming season
Game Two is at 630 pm CT tonight on ESPN, with the Mets having to break out Jacob deGrom before they hoped they would. He’ll Against Blake Snell, make an effort to rescue the Mets’ season.
Seattle hearties 4, Toronto Blue Jays 0 – ocean Leads Wild Card Round 1- 0
Unlike the two NL games, I didn’t have a strong lodging interest in this one, though I’m happy to see the hearties do well, given the long playoff failure. Plus, Cal Raleigh’s surname is the Big Dumper. Am I supposed to NOT bed for a joe nicknamed the Big Dumper?
The Big Dumper hit a two-run homer in the first to open the scoring on Alex Manoah, who eventually gave up two further in his fairly short spin. On the other side, Luis Castillo was everything the hearties traded for him to be( and also extended him, gosh darn it). And also supposedly the hearties have a joe named Andres Muñoz who throws 103 mph out of the bullpen, and he wrapped the game up. One of the great effects of the postseason is that you get exposed to guys like that, whoever finessed your radar( despite being a superstud this time – style did I sleep on this joe?).
Game Two is on ESPN at 3 pm CT this autumn, with Robbie Ray facing Kevin Gausman.
Cleveland Guardians 2, Tampa Bay shafts 1 – CLE Leads Wild Card Round 1- 0
I also don’t have a STRONG lodging interest in this series, but because I live in Ohio, and because Columbus is enough full of Guardians suckers( the Columbus Clippers are their triadic- A club, and we go to those games occasionally), I do kind of like to see the Guardians do well. Also, after 2016, knowing how crushing that must have been for what’s now the longest World Series failure, I wish nothing purely well for those suckers.
Anyway, it was an ewer’s dogfight, with Shanes McLanahan and Bieber( ewers named Shane is the new request inefficiency) matching each other nearly pitch-for-pitch. The difference between the two pitchers is that Bieber allowed Jose Siri to hit a solitary home run, while McLanahan allowed Jose Ramirez to hit a two-run shot.
Game Two is the moment at 11 am CT on ESPN2, with Tyler Glasnow( back, and pitching to save the shafts ’ season) facing Triston McKenzie. I love the MLB Playoffs, man.
